Lonely In Australia on Valentine’s Day? 3 Top Places to Meet Singles by Graeme Lanham
Many singles, particularly those in the iGeneration and backpacker age group, visit Australia during the freezing Northern Hemisphere winter to escape the cold and enjoy the warmth, beaches and sunshine of Australia.
In fact, during the summer, Australia is a backpackers and singles paradise.
But where do you go to meet partners and even find love? I put this question to many backpackers and singles during my travels around Australia.
Here are their 3 top choices for places to meet people in comfort and safety.
1. Best accommodation. Youth Hostels and clean backpacker hostels.
This was the overwhelming choice. They are great places to meet people, have organised social events, budget meals, organised trips to sporting events and best of all, safe, secure and clean places to sleep.
Sydney.
Some of the best hostels are conveniently located close to Sydney Central station. This includes 2 excellent YHA hostels. A new YHA hostel close to Circular Quay opened recently.
Another new hostel, “Wake Up” in Pitt St is claimed to be the best large hostel in the world. I was very impressed with the high standards of accommodation and facilities.
Melbourne.
As for Sydney, YHA accommodation is clean, secure and convenient. Check out a place called “Urban Central” at Southbank. It is very popular and the location is superb. I have stayed there and can highly recommend it.
Perth.
Perth Central YHA, close to the train station in Wellington St, provides top quality accommodation at a reasonable price. Try also the Northbridge area for good accommodation at a budget price.
2. Best beaches.
All singles and backpackers travelling around Australia, love the beaches. They are also great places to meet people. Here are some of the best.
Sydney.
Bondi is the number one choice, not only for the swimming, but the social life, restaurants, accommodation and nightlife. Take the bus from the eastern end of circular Quay. Manly is the other popular choice and can be reached by ferry from Circular Quay.
Melbourne.
The 3 most popular are St Kilda, Bells Beach and Torquay. St Kilda is close to the city and like Manly and Bondi, has a vibrant nightlife. Take the tram from The Princes St Bridge. The other 2 are popular surf beaches, some distance from the city. Take a bus from the terminal at Spencer St Station.
Perth.
Cottesloe and Scarborough are the 2 most popular. Hugely popular with singles, they are easily reached by public transport. To visit Cottesloe, take a bus from the bus port at the river end of William St. Scarborough is accessed by train from Perth Underground. Alight at Glendalough, then a bus to the beach.
Brisbane.
There are no beaches near the city. Take the train from the Central Station to the Gold Coast and Surfers Paradise.
Adelaide.
The most popular beach is Glenelg. It is similar to St Kilda and can be reached by tram from North Terrace.
3. Attend sporting events.
Aussies love their sport and they flock in their thousands to football and cricket matches. Here are the best venues to meet people.
Sydney.
Sydney Cricket Ground and ANZ stadium (Olympic Stadium) are the popular venues for cricket in summer and football (Aussie Rules and Rugby) in the winter.
Melbourne.
The best venues are the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Telstra Dome. The MCG is Australia’s top sporting venue and is used for cricket in the summer and Aussie Rules football in the winter. Both are within easy walking distance of the CBD.
Adelaide.
The Adelaide Oval is used for cricket and Aussie Rules football is played at AAMI Football Park. Adelaide Oval is within walking distance of the CBD.
Perth.
The WACA ground is the main cricket venue and Subiaco Oval is the venue for Aussie Rules football. Both are some distance from the CBD and public transport will be required.
Brisbane.
The Brisbane Cricket Ground is used for cricket, Aussie Rules Football and Rugby. It is within walking distance of the heart of the city.
Finally, places to avoid.
The nightclub and pub scene.
Some people love these places as venues to meet people. Others are more cautious.
Girls in particular need to be careful. Unwanted attention from drunken “yobbos” and outrageous bar prices, are their 2 biggest grumbles.
A number of backpacker hostels including Urban Central in Melbourne and Wake Up in Sydney have their own licensed bars where drinks and quality meals can be purchased at very reasonable prices. Many of the nightclubs are in areas of cities considered to be unsafe and girls should not enter these areas alone, particularly in the early hours of the morning.
The Kings Cross area of Sydney and Northbridge area of Perth are 2 places considered by singles to be unsafe late at night.
Happy Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to express and strengthen your relationship with your sweetheart, and to manifest that bond of love that you both share. Even that you might think you do not need to express your love in a material way, your soul mate might expect from you a great, honest gift, a gift from the heart. Sometimes is hard to come up with a good gift, especially if your love has it all. Then, you should focus on making this day the most romantic and erotic day of all your life for you and your valentine. Here, we make a compilation of ideas that can help you find the thoughtful perfect unique gift for the perfect 2010 Valentine’s Day.
First, this gift might be typical, but is very essential. Flowers maybe are not a great deal for women, but if you miss them, they will not forgive you. Men also like flowers, so you can consider it a great gift for your man. Flowers can express so much according to its color:
- Blue – Represents peace, openness, and serenity. A blue flowers bouquet offers a cooling antidote to anxiousness.
- Pink – Represents grace, gentility, and happiness, regardless of the shape of the flower. Pink blossoms convey youth, innocence, and joy.
- Purple – Represents dignity, pride, and success. Purple blooms bouquet represents accomplishment and admiration.
- Red – Represents desire, strength, and passionate love. It is a symbol of beauty, courage, and heat.
- White – Represents innocence, humility, and reverence. It evokes simple beauty.
- Yellow – A symbol of friendship, and sends a message of new beginnings and happiness. Evokes feelings of joy and lightheartedness.
- Orange – Symbolize energy, enthusiasm, and warmth. Conveys confidence, satisfaction, and a passion for life.
- Lavender – Represents refinement, grace, and elegance. Sends a message of feminine beauty.
Second, this is another gift you can not miss. You have to give chocolates. There are several types of chocolate that can be given or shared that special day. You can choose milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, or any kind of chocolate that you and your valentine really enjoy. Remember that chocolate can be used before and during the passionate time of the night, so make the right choice to enjoy it together.
Flowers and chocolates can not be left out of your gift, but they can not be the only gift. We have several ideas to compliment these two elements to make your 2010 Valentine’s Day the best day you will both remember.
You can add to your gift a photo frame with a picture of both of you. Though digital photo frames allows you to add a lot of pictures in it, and make a special presentation of your special moments together. You can also make mugs, calendars, mouse pads, and a lot more of quality photo objects to keep them as a reminder of the love you both share.
Did you know Valentine’s Day will be during a long weekend? Then this will be a great moment to get a little vacation with your soul mate in an hotel close by. You can book a room to stay the whole weekend and your Valentine’s Day will last much more.
Valentine’s Day is an occasion used for many people to propose marriage to their fiance. If you are considering this, a diamond ring could be your choice. This gift could be used also by married couples who wish to give a special present as a symbol of eternal love, as a constant and permanent way of saying “I love you.”
If you and your valentine have a good sense of humor, a good gift could be to make together a funny t-shirt to wear it that day. This could be a funny way of showing each other your sweetheart and you can show others how cool is for you both to be together.
You want to make your princess the sex goddess you have always dreamed in that erotic and passionate night? You can give her a sexy night gown. With this gift, you both win: she has something nice to wear, and you will see her in it, and enjoy it. Keep in mind that she needs to feel fine and comfortable in that sexy lingerie to become the sex goddess you want, so pick up something you know she will like and not something that you want her to wear.

Valentine’s Day Ideas For Your Boyfriend – Make Him You Remember You Dearly by J.J. Yong
If your man has been stressed lately with projects, work, studies or whatever else that could be bothering him, let valentine’s be a day where he gets to completely unwind and relax with you by his side. Make an appointment at a spa or massage parlor for two and just enjoy a good massage in each others company. This will give you a good time together while you enjoy a little pampering.
Besides that, you could hire a yacht and spend the day out on the seas taking in the beautiful views of the ocean and island. Bring along a picnic basket and a bottle of wine and just celebrate. It doesn’t matter if you think Valentine’s is nothing big to celebrate, think of it as celebrating your love and everlasting friendship instead.
In addition to that, if you’ve been stuck in the city and all the hustle and bustle is starting to get to you, the plan a vacation with your man and go away from your everyday’s for the weekend. A two night stay in a hotel can do both you and your man wonders, even more if it’s by the beach. If you don’t have the time for a trip; how about a day dedicated to romance and dancing? Sign up for a few salsa lessons and spend the night dancing away under the stars in the arms of your man. You could switch it up with foxtrot, ballroom dancing, waltz and so on.
Furthermore, if you’re under a tight budget, don’t think about what you can buy him but rather what you can do for him. Make him little gift card that he can claim with rewards like hugs, kisses, breakfast in bed, a day in, a spontaneous trip somewhere, dinner of his choice, massages and maybe even a few sex scratches as well.
There are so many things you can do to spice up Valentine’s Day. So be a little creative and change things around from the usual store bought gifts and thrill your man until he falls in love with you over and over.

Valentine Day Wedding – Exclusive Ideas On Saying “I Do” On Valentine’s Day by jasnav
Give her double the happiness on the occasion of your Valentine’s Day wedding.
All Red Bouquets
Unmarried girls are all gaga about the bridal bouquet to be thrown at them. One who gets the bouquet is considered to be married soon. Ensure the bouquet is of red roses, the symbol of love and Valentine’s.
Ask your flower decorator to make use of satin ribbons and silver sparklers for the complete romantic look.
Family Get Together
All the close relatives and pals should give good luck speeches on the wedding. Help them along. Tell them to include special anecdotes of your journey along the path of love to give a pleasant surprise to your newly wedded beau.
Since the wedding is on the occasion of the Valentine’s Day, ensure love and romance are part of the speech. It would make her feel more connected. Some cousins can also read out poems written by them for the couple. Again you could help them along to create that special feeling of family bonding.
Path Of Flowers
Instead of the typical red carpet, pave the path with colorful seasonal flowers. Have the bridesmaids add to the aura by showering the couple with red rose petals.
The idea of flowers will gel well with the concept of getting married on Valentine’s Day. It should be tastefully done with sisals and bouquets et al.
Family Memories
Gift her a collage full of photographs spanning from your childhood to working days. She will love the idea of carrying her family pictures into her new stage of domesticity and will proudly show it off to your guests.
Farewell Convoy
Since you have decided to say “I do” on Valentine’s Day, follow the theme of Valentine’s Day to the hilt. Hire a stretch limousine and decorate it with red roses with fern petals for the Valentine’s Day wedding.
You can also do the same design with your girl’s favorite flowers. Be confident about her choice of flowers else you may also end up upsetting her. You can also go for the pink orchids with palm for an exotic feel.
For an even more interesting look, pave the path till the car with bouquets of long stemmed flowers such as white lilies and seasonal flower petals showered by the family members and pals.
Go ahead and have a Valentine’s Day Wedding to remember!

2010 Best Valentine Gifts by Monique Beidleman
Last year, I bought my hubby two tickets to the Knicks game. He was shocked and surprised at my decision. I felt like “Hey, if he enjoys the NBA, it’s not going to hurt me that much to make his day once in awhile”. And ever since then, he does so many special “little things” because of how much I showed my appreciation for him and thought of him besides myself.
Men sometimes get turned off because they feel as if Valentine’s Day is just for women. I disagree. I feel both men and women should feel good on Valentine’s Day. You’re sharing the love you both have for each other.
Anyways, back to the best Valentine Gifts. Besides NBA game tickets, cheap hockey game tickets, and so on…what are some good Valentine gifts for her? Besides diamonds (which my hubby also surprised me with after that wonderful NBA game I took him to), going to Broadway plays, theatre shows, and other events are great for the ladies.
Stop moaning guys, it’s not that bad. Besides, think of the joy and delight your woman is going to feel when you surprise her with two tickets to her favorite show! Believe me, it will pay off. You may even get an early birthday gift.
Let me give you some of the best Valentine gifts and events of 2010.
1. ipods. Guys and girls love ipods.
2. Jersey Boys tickets. These tickets are going fast, but there are some special Valentine tickets available. I have heard nothing but rave reviews about this show.
3. NBA games. You can easily find some good, cheap tickets to NBA games. I was able to get us courtside tickets sitting next to Spike Lee for a steal!
4. Hockey games. Hockey games are some of the cheapest events I have gone to and had so much fun. Who would’ve thought I would have so much fun at a hockey event, but I did and the best part about it is that hockey game tickets are cheap!
5. Jewelry. You cannot go wrong with giving a girl jewelry. You get even more points if it’s Tiffany’s jewelry.
